No SSI Payment in November 2026? Why October and December Pay Twice

No SSI Payment in November 2026: The SSI payment gap is about to show up in bank accounts across the country: October 2026 brings two SSI deposits, November brings none, and December brings two more. The Social Security Administration pays SSI on Thursday, October 1 and again on Friday, October 30, which is the November benefit paid early because November 1 is a Sunday. The next deposit is Tuesday, December 1, followed by Thursday, December 31, which is the January 2027 benefit paid early for New Year’s Day. Nobody is losing money, but the spacing is uneven: the October 30 payment and the December 31 payment each have to last 32 days. Those are two of the longest SSI payment dates stretches of the year, and the longest of all arrives next summer at 33 days. We’ll be updating this article monthly as new dates and the 2027 raise are confirmed.

Most coverage lists the dates and stops there. This guide measures the gaps. We counted the days between every deposit from October 2026 through October 2027, found which months pay twice and which pay nothing, and turned the result into a daily budget you can use. Nearly 7.4 million Americans receive SSI, and the agency says about one third of them also get Social Security, so the pattern touches roughly 2.4 million households with a second program on a different schedule. Below you will find the full SSI payment calendar, the gap table, a Social Security date list for dual beneficiaries, and a free calculator that checks any month in under a minute. If your bank app shows nothing in November, read the gap table before you call anyone, because the money almost certainly arrived on October 30.

What Is the SSI Payment Gap?

An SSI payment gap is the stretch of days between two SSI deposits, and it is not the same every month. SSI is paid on the first of the month. When that day is a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, the payment moves to the last business day before it. Each move shifts a deposit into the previous month, which leaves the previous month with two deposits and the current month with none.

That is why the same benefit can feel like a double payment one month and a missing payment the next. The amount of your benefit does not change. What changes is how many days you have to stretch each deposit. In a normal 30 day month, a $994 payment works out to about $33 a day. In a 32 day gap, it is closer to $31.

Two things stand out. Over any twelve month stretch you still receive twelve payments. And the 2027 calendar year has three months with no SSI deposit dated inside them: January, May and August.

Gap Lengths: How Many Days Each Deposit Must Last

Here is the new part. We counted the days between every pair of deposits and divided a $994 payment by that number. The last column uses a $1,029 payment, which is our estimate of the individual rate if the 2027 raise lands near 3.5 percent.

FromToDaysDaily budget at $994Daily budget at $1,029 (estimate)
Oct 1, 2026Oct 30, 202629$34.28$35.48
Oct 30, 2026Dec 1, 202632$31.06$32.16
Dec 1, 2026Dec 31, 202630$33.13$34.30

Sep 1, 2027Oct 1, 202730$33.13$34.30

The gaps add up to exactly 365 days across the twelve payments, so nothing is lost over the year. The longest stretch is 33 days, from July 30 to September 1, 2027. The shortest is 28 days, from February 1 to March 1, 2027. The spread between them is only about $5.38 a day at the 2026 rate, but for a household living on SSI alone, that is real money at the end of the month.

Why the Longest Gaps Follow the Early Deposits?

Every early deposit creates a long gap behind it. A payment paid on a Friday before a Sunday first is two days early, so the period until the next deposit is longer than a calendar month by about the same amount. The four 32 or 33 day stretches in the table, October 30, December 31, April 30 and July 30, all come right after an early deposit.

This also explains why the shortest gap, 28 days, sits in February. Nothing was moved early before it. February simply has fewer days, and SSI is paid on the first for both ends of that gap.

Why 2027 Has Three Zero Payment Months?

The agency’s 2027 schedule, as summarized by Kiplinger, shows SSI-only recipients receiving their May and August 2027 benefits at the end of the prior month, and the January 2028 benefit on Thursday, December 30, 2027. That final date is one business day earlier than you might expect, because January 1, 2028 falls on a Saturday and the holiday is observed on Friday, December 31, 2027.

Put together with the January 2027 benefit paid on December 31, 2026, the 2027 calendar year has zero SSI deposits in January, May and August. It also has three double payment months: April, July and December. Those are the easiest ones to mistake for a bonus, and the easiest ones to overspend.

Dual Beneficiaries: The Social Security Dates Behind the SSI Gaps

People who receive both SSI and Social Security, and people who began collecting before May 1997, are paid Social Security on the 3rd of the month. When the 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment moves earlier. Here are the dates from the agency’s 2027 schedule, plus the fall 2026 dates.

MonthSocial Security date (dual or pre-May 1997)Day
October 2026October 2Friday
November 2026November 3Tuesday
December 2026December 3, plus the January 2027 payment on December 31Thursday, Thursday
January 2027None, paid December 31Not applicable
February 2027February 3Wednesday
March 2027March 3Wednesday
April 2027April 2Friday
May 2027May 3Monday
June 2027June 3Thursday
July 2027July 2Friday
August 2027August 3Tuesday
September 2027September 3Friday
October 2027October 1Friday

Notice that dual beneficiaries do not share the SSI gap in the same way. Their Social Security deposit falls in the middle of an SSI gap in most months, which softens it. In November 2026, for example, there is no SSI deposit, but the Social Security payment on November 3 still arrives. In January 2027, both programs are quiet.

Retirees on the Wednesday calendar have a smoother ride. The second, third and fourth Wednesday dates for January 2027 are January 13, 20 and 27, and February 2027 dates are February 10, 17 and 24.

How to Budget Through an SSI Payment Gap?

Budgeting around a gap is a matter of arithmetic. Divide the deposit by the number of days until the next one on the day it arrives. For the October 30 deposit of $994, that is about $31 a day for 32 days. A few habits keep the plan realistic:

  1. Subtract fixed bills first. Rent, utilities and phone come out before you divide.
  2. Divide what is left by the number of days, then set a weekly number you can hold yourself to.
  3. Move autopay dates so no large bill falls in the last three days before the next deposit.
  4. Keep a small cash buffer separate from the main account if you can.
  5. Treat early deposits as next month’s money. Money that arrives on the 30th is not extra.

A quick example. Suppose an SSI-only recipient pays $500 in rent and $120 in utilities and phone from the October 30 deposit. That leaves $374 for 32 days, about $11.69 a day for food, transport and everything else. Knowing that number on October 30 is a lot easier than finding out on November 25.

Rent and Bills in a Zero Payment Month

In a month with no deposit, the money arrived before the month began. If your rent is due November 1, the October 30 payment lands two days ahead, which is useful. If your rent is due November 20, that same payment has to sit in your account for three weeks.

Landlords and utilities do not follow the SSA calendar, so it helps to call ahead if a due date falls in the final week of a long gap. Many will move a due date or set up a partial payment if you ask early. If you use a prepaid card or a bank that holds deposits, check how fast funds become available so an early payment does not clear later than you expect.

What the 2027 Raise Does to the Gap Math?

The 2027 cost-of-living adjustment is expected to be announced on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, when the September inflation report is released. Forecasts have drifted down from earlier highs. The Senior Citizens League estimates 3.6 percent, AARP estimates 3.5 percent, and the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget has pointed to 3.2 percent. An independent analyst’s estimate has been as low as 3.4 percent. All of these are projections.

For SSI, the raise should first appear in the December 31 deposit, because that is the January 2027 benefit. Using the estimates above, the individual rate would land between about $1,026 and $1,030. At 3.5 percent, the longest 2027 gap, 33 days, would support about $31.18 a day, close to what the 32 day gaps support today. A larger raise helps, but it does not change the shape of the calendar.

How to Apply for SSI?

If you are not yet receiving SSI, the process is the same all year and has no fee.

  1. Call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 or contact a local office to start the application. You can begin some steps online through the agency’s website.
  2. Gather proof of age, citizenship or lawful status, bank details, records of income, savings and living arrangements, and medical records if you apply because of a disability.
  3. Complete the interview and sign the forms.
  4. Wait for the decision, which comes by mail or in your online account.

SSI is means tested. The resource limits are $2,000 for an individual and $3,000 for a couple, and the 2026 federal maximums are $994 and $1,491. Some states add a supplement on top.

Processing Time for a New SSI Claim

For disability based claims, which include many SSI applications, the agency’s August 2026 performance update showed initial decisions averaging about 186 days, down from 220 days earlier, while hearings before an administrative law judge averaged about 275 days. Those are averages, so your own wait may be shorter or longer.

SSI can begin the month after you file if you meet every requirement, so filing sooner protects money. In certain presumptive disability cases, payments can start for up to six months while the decision is still pending. After approval, your deposits follow the calendar in this article, including early dates and gap months.

If a Payment Looks Missing in a Gap Month

A missing SSI payment in November 2026 or January 2027 is usually a payment that already arrived. Work through this checklist before you call:

  1. Look at your bank history for October 30 and December 31.
  2. Check pending transactions, because some banks post early deposits overnight.
  3. Sign in to your my Social Security account and review your payment history.
  4. If a deposit is truly late, the agency’s public guidance asks you to wait a few days past the scheduled date, then call 1-800-772-1213 or visit a local office.

Be careful with any message that offers an extra payment or asks you to pay a fee to release one. The agency does not text or call asking you to claim a deposit. Report scam messages through the agency’s fraud reporting page.

Conclusion

The SSI calendar over the next year has a clear shape: two payments in October, none in November, two in December, none in January, and then a steadier run until April, July and December double up again. The gap lengths range from 28 to 33 days, and the benefit itself never changes.

The practical step is simple. On each deposit date, divide the payment by the days until the next one and plan from that number. Keep the official calendar handy, check your online account before assuming a payment is missing, and watch October 14 for the 2027 raise. We will keep this guide updated each month.
